Susan Eloise Hinton was born on July 22, 1948 in is Tulsa, Oklahoma. When she was 15, she started writing her first book, The Outsiders. She became S.E. Hinton when her publisher suggested that using her initials would give her more credibility if people thought she was a male. The Outsiders is based off of her life. She had many real greaser and soc friends, but she wasn't in any gang. S.E. Hinton has many hobbies including horse-back riding, and reading. Hinton was married to David Inhofe in 1970, and has a son named Nick Inhofe.
