The Outsiders is a book by S.E. Hinton that was written when she was only 16. It was first published in 1967. The book takes place during 1965 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the book, there are two groups of teens called the Greasers and the Socs. The two gangs are in deep conflict with each other. The book is about the story of a young greaser named Ponyboy Curtis. The novel is based on the thoughts of Ponyboy, and his point of view of the rivalry of Socs and Greasers.

The movie was released in March 1983. It was directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
